Venture House: Edition #6

VC Events, Jobs, Resources, and more.

Venture House Squad,

Strap in because we have a record number of updates this week šŸš€ Welcome to the sixth edition of our weekly newsletter where we dive into the latest events, jobs, resources, and more across the venture landscape.

Before we get started, my name is Gyan Kandhari and Iā€™m the Head of Community at Venture House. I connect investors and founders, lead events and partnerships, and create content for rising VCs.

Without further ado, here are this weekā€™s updates:

Investor & Founder Events

Itā€™s late August. Wedding season is reaching a climax, half my network is out next week, and if you live in NYC, you strictly avoid the Union Square train station this time of year.

Alas, there are more dinners and breakfast gatherings than Iā€™ve ever seen (youā€™ll see why in 10 seconds).

Check out our fully updated list as of today, August 15th.

šŸ‘‰ You can find the full list here šŸ‘ˆ

Here are a few of my favorite events belowā€¦

Brex Supper Club NYC (view)
Hosted by: Brex
When: Thursday, August 22nd
Where: NYC
My take: My favorite type of event - a small, curated group and flowing conversations. Brex is hosting a dinner with early-stage SaaS founders next Thursday. Expect conversations around prospecting, closing, and customer success.

Early-Stage Founders + Builders + Investors Happy Hour šŸ» (view)
Hosted by: Manan Modi
When: Monday, August 19th
Where: NYC
My take: Happy hour on a Monday is ambitious, but so are the people who will be in attendance (writerā€™s block got me). Casual event to meet other folks building in the space and find new investment opps.

August Tech Rooftop Mixer (view)
Hosted by: Andrew Yeung
When: Wednesday, August 21st
Where: NYC
My take: Andrewā€™s monthly rooftop mixers are pretty well-known at this point. Perched atop the Arlo Williamsburg Hotel, it makes for a stunning venue with a massive crowd. I admit - itā€™s not the place to conduct targeted networking, but youā€™ll never know who youā€™ll meet.

Early-Stage B2B SaaS VC/Founder Coffee Meetup
Hosted by: Forum Ventures, Artemis Fund
Event Location #1: Boston, Monday, August 19th (view)
Event Location #1: Chicago, Tuesday, August 20th (view)
My take: It looks like Forum Ventures is bullish on croissants because theyā€™re hosting two breakfast meetups (one in Chicago and Boston). Great chance to network with the Forum team (one of the most active early-stage VCs), Drive Capital, and some other awesome investors.

InnoCrew SF Founder Dinner (view)
Hosted by: Innocrew
When: Wednesday, August 21st
Where: SF
My take: InnoCrew hosts a monthly dinner with 20-30 founders. The organization is filled with supportive members and the dinner is a great way to meet the community.

Consumer Tech Happy Hour (view)
Hosted by: Obvious Ventures, Greycroft
When: Thursday, August 26th
Where: SF
My take: I have a soft spot for consumer tech. Obvious Ventures and Greycroft do too. Given most of SF is knee-deep in AI and enterprise, this is an awesome event for any builders or investors looking to connect.

šŸƒ (Evergreen) Founder Coworking at Antler NYC šŸ—½ (view)
Hosted by: Antler
When: Every Thursday
Where: NYC
My take: Antler is the #1 investor in early-stage companies for 1H 2024. Outside of the cap table, the firm hosts the startup community every Thursday for a 9-5 co-working session. They have snacks, drinks, phone booths, and itā€™s located next to Union Square. Antler co-working > WFH

VC Job Openings

Good news: Iā€™ve found some really good opportunities (no random VC Analyst roles in Luxembourg)
Bad news: every single one requires an essay

Honestly, at this rate, I might just become an author šŸ˜‚

Hereā€™s an updated list of VC roles as of today, August 15th.

šŸ‘‰ You can find the full list here šŸ‘ˆ

Iā€™ve handpicked a few of my favorite openings belowā€¦

āš”Investor, Offline Ventures (view)
šŸŒ Location: SF
My Take: Traditional investor role spanning sourcing to deal execution across early-stage investments. Lean team and loads of responsibility. I would equate this to a Senior Associate/Principal role.

āš”Investor, Will Ventures (view)
šŸ—½ Location: NYC
My Take: You donā€™t come across sports and entertainment VCs every day. Not to mention, Will Ventureā€™s is a relatively new firm, making this investor role quite a find.

āš”Associate, Arc Ventures (view)
šŸ™ļø Location: DC
My take: Great entry role for anyone looking to switch to VC and has 1-3 years of work experience. In my last email, I joked about eating ramen noodles in a Harlem 1BR based on the Analystā€™s salary. Well it looks like the Arc team is subscribed because this pays much better.

āš”Chief of Staff, South Park Commons (view)
šŸ—½ Location: NYC
My take: My pick of the week. This is an opportunity to work alongside the firmā€™s GPs to execute investments and manage the day-to-day operations. If this couldnā€™t get any better, the role is based in SF and focuses on supporting early-stage founders. Networking, mentorship, deal exposure = your next role??
