Venture House: Edition #5

VC Events, Jobs, Resources, and more.

Venture House Squad,

It’s that time of the week again 🔥 Welcome to the fifth edition of our weekly newsletter where we dive into the latest events, jobs, resources, and more across the venture landscape.

We’ve seen a flurry of new events and job postings in the past week. I think it’s only going to get better as investors gear up for a busy September (seriously, I’m already blocking off dates for meetups next month).

Before we get going, my name is Gyan Kandhari and I’m the Head of Community at Venture House. I connect investors and founders, lead events and partnerships, and create content for rising VCs.

Without further ado, here are this week’s updates:

Investor & Founder Events

Business is booming. There were at least 10 investor and founder events yesterday in NYC alone (we covered these in the last edition).

Check out our fully updated list as of today, August 8th.

Here are a few of my favorite events below…

🎾 Tech Pickleball NYC (view)
Hosted by: Rohan Doshi, John DiLoreto, Skyler Birk-Stachon
When: (Tomorrow) Friday, August 9th
Where: NYC
My take: I find that the best events are those that are casual, don’t require any pitching, and involve an activity. Tech Pickleball NYC hits all of those notes. Not to mention, Rohan and John (Penguin AI) and Skyler (Optemization) are three awesome folks to know who are leading the NYC startup ecosystem.

🔥 Founders Friday Fireside Chat (view)
Hosted by: Ankur Nagpal
When: (Tomorrow) Friday, August 9th
Where: NYC
My take: If pickleball is not your thing, Founders Friday is hosting a fireside chat with Ankur Nagpal (founder of Carry, Teachable). Great way to kick off your Friday morning and meet fellow founders and investors.

🤖 Building AI Agents in NYC: Happy Hour and Networking (view)
Hosted by: Austin Ritter, Ravi Ramachandran
When: Wednesday, August 14th
Where: NYC
My take: If you’re a founder, developer, investor, or simply an AI agent enthusiast in NYC, this is THE event to go to. Austin and Ravi are co-leading Building AI Agents, one of the fastest-growing AI Agent communities in the Bay Area. This is a great chance to get involved with the community and grow your network as they expand to NYC.

🌴 LA Founders & Investors (view)
Hosted by: Brandon Hoffman, Filip (Fil) Graniczny
When: Wednesday, August 14th
Where: LA
My take: Sunset Ventures (early-stage VC) and Emerging LA (startup community) are combining forces and hosting a fireside chat + happy hour at Techstars Culver City. Top-tier talent + awesome venue = an evening well spent.

🏠 Deep-tech Founders + Investors @ SF Hacker House (view)
Hosted by: Pravardh Mishra, Jenny Tang
When: Sunday, August 11th
Where: SF
My take: Deep-tech and SF are two peas in a pod. In this spirit, Pravardh and Jenny are hosting a chill evening at an SF hacker house for founders and builders. If you’re operating in anything from climate and frontier tech to bio/health, energy, hardware, and space - this is the event for you. Side note: as an investor, I LOVE these events as you get to meet folks pushing innovation at the earliest stages. 100p recommend.

🗽 The OOO Summit (view)
Hosted by: Andrew Yeung
When: Saturday, August 17th
Where: NYC
My take: Day 1 readers know I’ve posted about this event before but with the conference only a week away, I thought I’d flag it for anyone who’s unaware. The OOO Summit is pent up to be one of the largest events of the year, and in my books, looks like Tech Week packed into 24 hours. Alex Lieberman (Morning Brew and Arb), Sam Parr (The Hustle), Steph Smith (a16z) and other speakers will be in attendance.

VC Job Openings

VC jobs keep piling in but the competition keeps rising. To help you stay ahead of the pack, we’ve updated our list with 15+ new job openings this past week.

👉 You can find the full list here 👈

I’ve handpicked a few of my favorite openings below…

Investment Manager, Okta Ventures (view)
🌉 Location: SF
My Take: Opportunity to invest in early-stage enterprise software startups across the consumer, enterprise, crypto, and fintech spaces. Classic venture role for anyone with 3-5 years of experience. Solid investment activity as well (10+ investments per year)

Senior Associate, Technology/AI (view)
🌉 Location: SF
My Take: Another great role for those interested in enterprise SaaS, albeit with a focus on AI and DeepTech. I admit, the experience level requirement is a bit high (5+ years) but B Capital is a reputable, well-structured (global) VC with 7B+ AUM - a rare sight in venture.

Associate - B2B SaaS Venture Studio, 25Madison (view)
🗽 Location: NYC
My take: Hot off the press (posted <2 hours ago). Awesome opportunity for anyone looking for a hybrid operating/investing role at a stellar venture platform.

Analyst, Arc Ventures (view)
🗽 Location: NYC
My take: Great entry role for anyone looking to switch to VC. Pay will leave you eating ramen noodles in a Harlem 1BR, but I’ve made it work before.

Highlights from our last member’s dinner featuring some awesome founders 🥳

We’re in the thick of August. For making it this far, here is this week’s fortune cookie…

A study done by law student Tyler Vigan showed a moderate to strong correlation (coefficient of 0.66) between the number of movies Nicolas Cage releases in a year and the number of drownings in swimming pools that same year. Coincidence?

Catch you next time,
