Venture House: Edition #4

VC Events, Jobs, Resources, and more.

Venture House Squad,

We’re kicking off August with a bang 💥 Welcome to the fourth edition of our weekly newsletter where we dive into the latest events, jobs, resources, and more across the venture landscape.

As always, my goal is for you to use this newsletter as a weekly bite-sized update to navigate the venture world.

For those that are new, my name is Gyan Kandhari and I’m the Head of Community at Venture House. I connect investors and founders, lead events and partnerships, and create content for rising VCs.

Without further ado, here are this week’s updates:

Investor & Founder Events

August is already shaping up to be a block party…
More deals + fresh powder = more expensed happy hours and dinners

To this end, we’ve added ~25 new events in the next week that you won’t want to miss.

Check out our fully updated list as of today, August 1st.

Here are a few of my favorite events below…

🍸 SaaS Investor and Founder Dinner (message me: [email protected])
Hosted by: Me! Gyan Kandhari
When: Wednesday, August 7th
Where: NYC
My take: Ah yes, a shameless plug (this was going to happen sooner or later). I’m hosting a small dinner with fellow SaaS investors and founders in NYC next Wednesday. If you’re a founder, we have two spots left! Send a quick snippet of your company to my email.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming…

🍸 Soho Tech Happy Hour w/ Platter, Haven, And Afore Capital (view)
Hosted by: Cyrus Shirazi, Ben Sharf, Jack Mcclelland
When: Wednesday, August 7th
Where: NYC
My take: Great networking opp for founders and operators. In addition to leading Haven, Cyrus runs Startup Helpers, a community of startup founders and operators. Ben (CEO, Platter) also hosts events periodically for the community. Combined, this makes for an awesome introduction to the NYC startup scene.

🎉 DRF, SVB, and Orrick Present: Pattern Breakers by Mike Maples Jr (view)
Hosted by: Mike Maples, Jr, Caroline Toch, Akshit (Ash) Bhatia
When: Wednesday, August 7th
Where: NYC
My take: Some of the best investor and operating talent in one room celebrating Mike’s (Partner at Floodgate) new book. Molly (Partner at Dorm Room Fund), Ash (Silicon Valley Bank), and other top investors will be in attendance. Great networking opp for anyone (investors, founders, and operators).

🥂 Ignite AI NYC (view)
Hosted by: Betaworks
When: Wednesday, August 7th
Where: NYC
My take: Alright, another Wednesday event in NYC (we need a planning committee ASAP). If neither of the two above events scratches your itch, Ignite AI is hosting a (you guessed it) AI pitch and networking event with Betaworks. The catch? You have 5 minutes, 20 slides, 15 seconds each.

🍕 AI + Marketing Tech Networking Event (view)
Hosted by: Silverside AI
When: Thursday, August 8th
Where: SF
My take: Pitches, Panels, and Pizza. I lied about the pizza but this event is a solid 10/10 for SF investors and founders in AI and MarTech. Mariane Bekkar (Progressive Ventures), Eric Oldrin (Silverside AI, Meta) and other industry leaders will be in attendance.

🙌 DC Tech Meetup #84: Vertical SaaS (view)
Hosted by: DC Tech Meetup
When: Wednesday, August 7th
Where: DC
My take: Vertical SaaS is on a tear, making it a perfect time to meet other founders and investors in the space. Katie and the team DC Tech Meetup are veterans at meetups, so I’m sure you’ll get the most out of your time there.

🍃 (Evergreen) Founder Coworking at Antler NYC 🗽 (view)
Hosted by: Antler
When: Every Thursday
Where: NYC
My take: Kaila and the team at Antler are doing god’s work and opening up their space to the startup community every Thursday for a 9-5 co-working session. They have snacks, drinks, phone booths, and it’s located next to Union Square. Antler co-working > WFH

VC Job Openings

After 25+ calls this week with VCs across the country, the consensus is that more jobs will be on the market in the coming weeks.

Here’s an updated list of VC roles as of today, August 1st.

👉 You can find the full list here 👈

I’ve handpicked a few of my favorite openings below…

Investor, Tribeca Venture Partners (view)
🗽 Location: NYC
My Take: High-caliber team leading rounds in some of the best Series A+ companies in NYC. The application is tedious, but the opportunity is immense.

Senior Analyst, Flux Capital (view)
🌴 Location: LA
My Take: Traditional VC role (sourcing, diligence, deal execution) for those with 2-3 years in IB, consulting, product, or other relevant backgrounds.

Chief of Staff, Inspired Capital (view)
🗽 Location: NYC
My take: Opportunity to work alongside the Founder and Managing Partner at an early-stage venture fund. In addition to day-to-day operations, you’ll get full exposure to the investment process. 10/10 opportunity in my book.

SVP, Citi Ventures (view)
🗽 Location: NYC
My take: CVC with a massive balance sheet to deploy out of PLUS traditional venture exposure (sourcing through portfolio management). Given the qualifications are 4+ years in Fintech investing with bonus points for TMT/FIG banking, this is a perfect role for my fellow Stern/Michigan/UPenn finance bros and gals.

It’s the first day of August - insane, I know. For making it this far, here is this week’s fortune cookie…

When you Google what disease you have, you don’t find out what disease you have, just the one with the best SEO.

Catch you next time,
