VC Events, Jobs, Resources, and more.

Venture House Squad,

Welcome to the (Friday) the 13th edition of our weekly newsletter where we dive into the latest events, jobs, resources, and more across the venture landscape.

If you’re new here, my name is Gyan Kandhari and I’m the Head of Community at Venture House. I connect investors and founders, lead events and partnerships, and create content for rising VCs.

Without further ado, here are this week’s updates:

Investor & Founder Events

We’ve got a jam-packed schedule with TechCrunch Disrupt SF in full swing.

Here's a quick rundown of what’s on the calendar…

🔍 Inside: Harlem Capital Luncheon (view)
Hosted by: Gabby Cazeau
When: Tuesday, October 29th
Where: NYC
My take: Harlem Capital has steadily carved out its position as both a thought leader (with 100k+ combined followers) and an investor in diverse founders. Gabby (Partner) is sitting down to discuss Harlem’s investment philosophy and approach as they tackle their goal of investing in 1k founders over the next 20 years. Great for B2B SaaS founders wanting a peek under the hood. It’s also a perfect opportunity for investors to meet founders and connect with one of the most active VCs in NYC.

🥂 Connect & Capitalize w/ Inspired Capital, Flybridge and AlleyCorp (view)
Hosted by: Kamran Ali, Susannah Shipton
When: Wednesday, October 30th
Where: NYC
My take: True investor-founder mixer with a roster of active early-stage VCs in attendance. As an investor, I treat these events as opportunities to get a lay of the landscape and build my founder network; the same can be said for founders gearing up or in the process of raising. If you plan on going, I would slightly brush up on your elevator pitch.

🎉 ShitPitch Live Event w/ Antler (view)
Hosted by: Kaila Lim, Kent Richeson
When: Tuesday, October 29th
Where: NYC
My take: Antler is giving three founders the opportunity to pitch more than just their real business…they’ll pitch a fake business idea, too. Kaila and the entire team do an awesome job of curating small, relaxing environments that make networking a breeze; this one fits the bill. Show up, get a good laugh in, and maybe meet your next co-founder or unicorn.

💛 Women Tech Meetup w/ Pear VC, Day One Ventures, defy VC (view)
Hosted by: Viven Ho, Jenny Chao, Amy Yin
When: Monday, October 28th
Where: SF
My take: My pick of the week. WTM is curating a panel featuring some of the top investors in the space, including Vivien Ho (Pear VC), Jenny Chao (Day One Ventures), and Amy Yin (defy), among others. The discussion will revolve around fundraising and the challenges that female founders face on their journey to building successful companies, along with strategies to overcome them. Awesome mission, killer panel, 11/10 event in my book.

🎃 Hardtech Halloween w/ Alumni Ventures (view)
Hosted by: Shail Highbloom, Ryan Musto
When: Tuesday, October 29th
Where: NYC
My take: If you’re operating or investing in the deeptech and hardtech sectors and are not afraid of ghosts, then check out Alumni Ventures’ get-together next Tuesday. The night will be filled with demos, good convos, and themed drinks.

VC Job Openings

We’ve got a solid lineup of associate and investor roles this week. Funds are closing, startups are fundraising, and venture teams are in need of help. While it’s certainly tough to break into (or lateral in) VC, there are more opportunities now than ever.

Here’s an updated list of VC roles as of today, October 25th.

I’ve handpicked a few of my favorite openings below…

Investor, Venrock (view)
🏙️ Location: NYC, SF
My Take: Venrock is hiring for two roles: (1) an investor to expand its portfolio in developer-tech, AI, and enterprise software, and (2) an investor to expand its portfolio in fintech and wealth management. Both roles include traditional associate-level work, including sourcing, diligence, and deal execution. Venrock is a well-known, blue-chip firm with a hefty war chest, making these two openings top finds.

Investor, Altos Ventures (view)
🌉 Location: SF
My Take: Mix of venture and operational (post-investment) strategy work for those with previous venture, IB/PE, consulting, or product experience. A relatively broad mandate (early-stage consumer and enterprise) and consistent investment activity make this one an easy sell.

Investment Manager, R3D3 Ventures (view)
🌉 Location: SF
My Take: R3D3 is a corporate venture arm of Rong360, a provider of customized financing and loan services. While it does sound out of left field, I find the principal-centric work (overseeing sourcing, diligence, and the entire portfolio) and the hybrid in-office schedule compelling.

Associate, Coinbase (view)
🌉 Location: SF
My Take: Another SF role (c’mon NYC). The web3 market has not stopped and Coinbase continues to be a top investor in the space. Coinbase, along with other CVCs, is becoming more independent from its parent organizations and operating more like traditional venture capital firms. If you’re interested in web3, I highly suggest giving this one a look.

It’s been a busy Q4 thus far. And while you’re hammering away at new deals, fundraising, or finishing up classwork, it’s never a bad idea to go outside and take in that crisp autumn air. Before you head into the weekend, here’s your weekly fortune cookie…

Not caring about temporary things, and obsessing over permanent things, is underrated.
