Venture House: Edition #10

VC Events, Jobs, Resources, and more.

Venture House Squad,

Welcome to the tenth edition of our weekly newsletter where we dive into the latest events, jobs, resources, and more across the venture landscape.

If you’re new, my name is Gyan Kandhari and I’m the Head of Community at Venture House. I connect investors and founders, lead events and partnerships, and create content for rising VCs.

Without further ado, here are this week’s updates:

Investor & Founder Events

With Climate Week NYC on the horizon (22nd to 29th) we’re in for a jam-packed schedule. For those of you investing and operating outside of climate tech, don’t sweat it - I’ve got you covered

Check out our fully updated list as of today, September 20th.

Here are a few of my favorite events in the next week below…

🍾 Emerging Leaders in Climate Happy Hour (view)
Hosted by: Zac Geinzer, Everett Sanderson, Anthony Cortese
When: Tuesday, Sep 24th
Where: NYC
My take: I LOVE this format. 10-15 minute open mic to tell the room what you're working on and how folks can get involved with your work. Not to mention, Zac (Commonweal Ventures) and Everett (City Light Capital) are two rockstars in the venture landscape investing in some of the best-emerging climate tech companies. Overall great opportunity to get in front of investors and builders.

🥳 Gen Z NYC Founder Mixer (view)
Hosted by: Natalie Neptune
When: Friday, Sep 27th
Where: NYC
My take: Natalie and the community at GenZtea host some of the best founder events in the city. If you’re 20-something and looking to connect with fellow operators, founders, and investors, I suggest starting your Friday evening here.

☕ Coffee Club | Early-Stage B2B SaaS Founders & Funders
Hosted by: Nia Pryce, Olivia O'Sullivan
NYC: View (Friday, Sep 27th)
Boston: View (Thursday, Sep 26th)
My take: Olivia (Partner, Forum) and Nia (Community Lead, Forum) host B2B SaaS investors and founders once a month for morning coffee. This is a perfect opportunity to meet one of the most active VCs across the country while also connecting with other local investors (Glasswing is co-hosting the Boston event).

🥐 Coffee, Capital & Conversations (view)
Hosted by: Shawn Park, Kristina Chapple, Neal Sarraf
When: Wednesday, Sep 25th
Where: Chicago
My take: 11 Tribes, Chicago Ventures, and Forum (I swear they’re not sponsoring this newsletter) are teaming up for a breakfast networking + panel session. The panel discussion will focus on raising a Seed/Series A and trends across the venture landscape.

🦾 AI After Hours @ GitHub w/ Encord (view)
Hosted by: Maya Nayyar
When: Tuesday, Sep 24th
Where: SF
My take: It’s no secret SF is THE hotbed for AI founders. I report on at least 5 new AI events in the Bay Area each week. With that said, Maya is hosting my top pick at the GitHub HQ next Tuesday. Pop by for drinks, pizza, and stimulating convos with the best and brightest in AI.

VC Job Openings

We’ve published ~10 additional vetted full-time positions in the last week. I’m seeing more and more firms posting, only to then remove their post a few days later. I’ve followed up with each firm so expect 1-3 additional links by Sunday.

Here’s an updated list of VC roles as of today, September 20th.

I’ve handpicked a few of my favorite openings below…

Associate, 11 Tribes (view)
🏙️Location: Chicago, IL
My take: $40M of fresh powder + small team = tons of responsibility from the outset. Emphasis on sourcing also lends to the appeal. 10/10 opp for those in venture and looking to break in.

Investment Analyst, Wonder Ventures (view)
🏙️Location: LA
My take: What seems like a traditional analyst role turns out to be something more. You’ll shadow the fund’s Principal, build your venture network in LA, source new investment opps, and assist with all aspects of the investment process.

Investor, Index Ventures (view)
🗽Location: NYC
My take: Top global VC with a RARE job opening. Focus on infrastructure, security, and AI plus it’s based in NYC…take my application now.

Senior Associate, Rakuten Capital (view)
🏙️Location: Seattle or London
My take: We tend to have one unique role each week. This time around it’s a Sr. Associate role at Rakuten. The team has deployed over $1B of capital and invested in 70+ companies, including Lyft, Pinterest, Upstart, and Careem. You’ll also be exposed to business strategy, joint ventures, etc.

23 and Signing Mr. Beast

We’re introducing a new section focused on highlighting community members and their stories.

This week we’re highlighting Hamish McKay, CEO and co-founder of Order Editing, a Shopify app that helps customers self-service order edits (think address changes, product add-ons, etc.)

With Order Editing, brands require fewer customer service agents while also boosting revenues through upsell opportunities. The company receives a fee from each ticket serviced + a % of upsell rev + a monthly subscription fee.

In <6 months, Hamish has signed clients including Mr. Beast, Represent, Oh Polly, and others. He’s approaching $1M in ARR, and with the holiday season around the corner, Order Editing is looking to surpass that milestone by year’s end.

It’s Friday (woohoo) and a glass of wine sounds amazing right about now. While we do have a few more hours left in the workday, here’s this week’s fortune cookie to hold you down…

There's no greater waste of time than justifying your actions to people who have a life you don't want.
